“Those who are afflicted with it, are seized while they are walking (more especially if it be uphill, and soon after eating) with a painful and most disagreeable sensation in the breast, which seems as if it would extinguish life if it were to increase or to continue; but the moment they stand still, all this uneasiness vanishes.”

– William Heberden, 1772.

As we go to print with the last issue of the year, we are reminded that the classical definition of angina, as described by Heberden in 1772, still holds true. The treatment has come a full circle with the ICHEMIA trial (in our Cardio update section) suggesting that well-managed patients do well on medical therapy. Another trial we cover is the tussle for supremacy between Prasugrel and Ticagrelor, the ISAR REACT 5 trial. Statistics continues to hold interest, going from Bayes theorem to Bayesian Statistics and also Sampling Techniques. The original articles include the importance of Vitamin D and uric acid levels as prognostic markers in cardiology and studies on varying methods of applying blood pressure cuffs and validation of a new portable keychain-sized electrocardiography machine. The case reports cover a variety of cases such as modified Tiger catheters, use of optical coherence tomography, and cases of Leptospirosis.

A Very Happy New Year.
